Past Due: The average basic cost of living in San Diego

Artist Statement

I am a San Diego interdisciplinary artist specializing in social commentary and documenting the human experience.

My work stems from a sustained practice of inquiry. Moving between observation, research, writing, and material exploration, I approach image-making as a way of thinking- a method for documenting the tension between personal experience and broader social, environmental, and political contexts. Each project begins as an open ended question allowing the work to evolve and take on its own identity.

I’m drawn to materials that carry their own histories, and I use them to build spaces where memory, embodiment, and place intersect. I explore how the personal becomes political and how lived experience illuminates systems that otherwise might seem abstract. My work invites viewers into conversation with themselves, community, or concept. It is my deepest belief that by engaging in meaningful discourse with ourselves and each other, it will result in necessary change.
